Annual Student Case Report Challenge Optometry Students Become Optometry's Teachers The winners of our student writing competition share their knowledge with the profession.
Some cultures consider everyone to be a teacher and believe that everyone else can learn something from that person. Our annual "Student Case Report Challenge," now a decade-long tradition, exemplifies this belief. Each year we invite third- and fourth-year optometry students to share
their newfound knowledge with the profession.
Our judges—Leonid Skorin Jr., O.D., D.O.; John E. Musick, O.D.; and Robert
L. Walker, O.D.—then face the difficult task of deciding which three papers
stand out from the rest. They were asked to judge papers according to
the quality of care provided, value to the profession, editorial enterprise
and quality of writing.
Winners were announced earlier this month at the American Optometric
Student Association's annual meeting. Congratulations to this year's winners,
all from the University of Houston College of Optometry. They are:
Thanks to all the students who submitted papers. Thanks also to our three judges and to our contest sponsors—Keeler, Nikon and Volk Optical—all of whom teach about giving one's time and support.
